Light Sculpture

Below is a catalog of recent works. All pieces shown can be custom modified.

Hanging, freestanding, or as a permanent architectural feature, light sculptures are available in a variety of light sources such incandescent, halogen, fluorescent, xenon, or LED.

The color, texture and feel of material and light can be determined to create a unique piece or lighting installation for the particular environment.


Synchron Series is a series of 12 light boxes that was featured in the exhibition, “El Poder de la Luz” in New York City in 2000. Each box is woven across the surface with an intricate design that is unique to each one. The weaving is illuminated by black light concealed within. Each form is woven with a mandala-like illuminated pattern giving the appearance of fiber optics. In this series each box measures 28” x 28” inches. The Negril Lounge in New York City features two pieces from the Synchron Series behind the bar.

Synchron Series


Hourglass is a black light box of woven string encased in a wooden and acrylic or glass frame. It can also be recessed into a wall with the light sources integrated into the architecture. As a single light object or a module for an entire light wall, Hourglass is just one of the many possibilities of patterns available.

Light Column is a custom large-scale sculpture illuminated from within. For a high-end residential project Invisible Light Studio created a light column of acrylic backed layers of handmade paper. The patchwork of paper emits a soft diffuse glow to the space. A remote controlled hand-held dimmer or wall dimmer controls the light. It measures nearly 12’ in height.

Light Bar is a slim minimal light object. An installation of multi-directional light bars was designed for the restaurant Negril Village in New York City. Each bar glows with a linear incandescent light source inside a paper and acrylic form measuring 42” in length. Multi-colored papers offer a mix of glowing soft illumination.

Floating Fiber Form emits the glow of green and white paper fibers measuring 28” x 52”. Light radiates from the entire surface. Dimensions range from large ceiling or wall-mounted styles to slender 4” x 14” models that can be hung. This piece is featured in the downstairs lounge of the Negril Village restaurant in New York City.

Floating Fiber Form


Sliding Light Wall of imported European fabric and high color rendering fluorescent light creates clean comfortable muted light. The hinged panel allows for easy replacement of the bulbs. The wall moves on a track and is multi-circuited for adjustable light settings. For a high-end residence in New York City a sliding light wall measuring 57”x 96” was created.

Sliding Light Wall (half on)


Quadrillion is a freestanding light panel. It is both a light source and a piece of moveable architecture. It has four different light settings. The hinged panel allows for easy replacement of the bulbs. It has one face of canvas emitting a soft diffuse light and a second face of fabric and layers of multi-colored handmade paper. Quadrillion can be made in a variety of materials, finishes and sizes. The dimensions pictured above are 58” x 58”

RGB is comprised of three components that together form one panel. Each panel represents one of the primary colors of light. With each section controlled separately by dimmer, the mood of the space can be easily altered to cast colored light into the room or mix to create white light. Each panel shown measures approximately 48” x 12” RGB was featured on the cover the poetry book Fashionable Noise published by Atelos press.

Eleven are twin light sculptures in our new collection. They are woven, internally lit, freestanding pieces that can be custom made to a particular size. They can also be formed with paper pulp in our unique technique of papermaking and weaving. Contact us for paper samples and visit our “paper” page often to see updates of new in-house papers.

Moroccan lantern is a hanging light object that is an example of a smaller scale piece created by Invisible Light Studio for a series of hallway fixtures for a building in New York City. It measures 16” in length and has a compact fluorescent light source. Custom table, wall-mounted, and suspended light objects can be created as a single piece or as a family of light objects.
